I've done the not-remembering thing, with the Asylum. Nothing except my name, and I'm bloody proud to have managed to hold on to that much.

You still need a body to sustain you, and then you're sort of ... siphoned out of one and into another. The change-cradles are very carefully minded pieces of tech, you know. Theoretically, you could be stored in a cradle until a body comes along, but ... lets just say experiments in that vein haven't turned out very well. From my own crisis transferal, I'm pretty sure I know why. You do NOT want to be stuck in one of those things. *shakes head vehemently*

Some spirits do seem to have a degree of self-sufficiency that allows them to continue minus a body altogether. What I think people mean by 'ghosts'. Some of them ... piggyback on other minds, share bodies. Not altogether willingly, a lot of time. It's ... a touchy subject.
